Job summary

The Methodist Church in Britain is recruiting Probation Service Officers within the National Probation Service in Greater Manchester, on behalf of the Ministry of Justice. Successful candidates will manage a caseload before and after sentence, assess risk and write court reports.

The role involves medium and lower risk cases across courts, prisons, approved premises or unpaid work settings, with hybrid working where business needs allow, and extensive learning and development opportunities.

Qualifications

• No degree required.
• Evidence of relevant experience, given in application form answers.

Responsibilities

• Manage a caseload before and after sentence.
• Assess people on probation and manage the risks they present.
• Implement sentences and provide offender management.
• Write reports and provide information to courts.
• Provide case management support under service procedures and practice directions.
• Work with agencies across the justice system.
• Offer practical support on issues such as housing and employment.
• Use professional judgement in line with service practice.
