Job Title: Probabilistic Safety Assessment Engineer

Working Pattern: Full Time

Working location: Raynesway, Derby / Hybrid

We have an exciting opportunity for a Probabilistic Safety Assessment Engineer to join our team at Rolls-Royce, Derby.

As part of this opportunity, you will be working on probabilistic safety assessment of the Nuclear Steam Raising Plant (NSRP) used across the UK’s Submarine Programme comprising platforms in-service, platforms in construction and the next generation in design. Individual product programmes are at different stages of design and safety case maturity offering a range of opportunities and challenges but all part of a national endeavour vital to the security of the nation.

This role covers the full probabilistic safety assessment process including hazard identification, screening and assessment, component and human reliability assessment, determining initiating event frequencies, modelling of plant through fault trees, and interpreting and reporting on model results to inform design and substantiation. This includes working across all systems and functions involved in the design and substantiation of NSRP.

Who we’re looking for

  • Have a technical background at degree level including but not limited to mathematics, physics or any engineering discipline. Training in NSRP provided by Rolls-Royce.
  • Be an excellent communicator who is keen to learn with demonstrable experience working with a wide range of customers and stakeholders throughout a project or product lifecycle. Proven technical report writing skills required.
  • Ideally, have a background in or be interested in probabilistic safety assessment so familiar with equipment and human reliabilities, understanding hazards and hazard screening, building event trees and fault trees, running models and reporting on results etc.

To work for the Rolls-Royce Submarines business an individual has to hold a Security Check clearance.
