Job summary

Osborne Richardson are recruiting on behalf of a local authority client in Bedfordshire for an experienced Private Sector Housing Team Leader to lead the Housing Solutions team, regulate and improve conditions in the private sector, and drive performance using statutory powers.

You will manage Environmental Health Officers and Technical Officers, handle complex cases, review prosecutions, and engage with residents and partners to deliver renewal objectives and sustainability goals.

Qualifications

• Recent or previous experience as a Team Leader within a local authority.
• Experience in Private Sector Housing enforcement and HMOs.

Job description

We are recruiting on behalf of a local authority client based in Bedfordshire for an experienced Private Sector Housing Team Leader to join their Housing Solutions service. This is a fantastic opportunity for a skilled housing professional to take the lead on regulating and improving conditions across the private sector housing stock in Central Bedfordshire, using statutory powers to drive real change for residents. You will play a key role in supporting the delivery of the Council's Housing Assistance policy and associated programmes, helping to achieve renewal objectives, promote environmental sustainability, and maximise both public and private investment in local housing.

In this role, you will work closely with the Head of Housing Solutions, contributing your expert knowledge to lead, manage and develop a team of Environmental Health Officers and Technical Officers across a broad range of Private Sector Housing functions. You'll take ownership of complex casework, providing advice and guidance to practitioners on challenging cases and HMOs, while also undertaking the first review of prosecution files, tribunal cases and financial penalty notices. The role also involves managing a small caseload of your own complex cases, including attending inspections and supporting officers with notices, schedules of work and evidence files, alongside regular face-to-face engagement with a wide range of customers.
