Nick Joyce is the Director General of the Corporate Delivery Group (CDG) in the Department for Transport (DfT). In CDG, we are at the heart of DfT. We advise, challenge and enable the cross-cutting work of the department, to ensure that our priority outcomes are delivered efficiently, effectively and within the Spending Review envelope. CDG is made up of eight directorates, ranging from HR to Digital to Commercial, bringing together teams with a broad range of professional expertise to shape decision making; managing risk to optimise benefits and promote value for money. It is this expert knowledge and skill set that enables the department to deliver its transport priorities.

We are based around the country, including Swansea, Hastings, Birmingham, Leeds and London and bring together people with a very broad range of expertise, backgrounds and perspectives.

We are looking for a talented HEO to take on the role as the Director General’s Private Secretary. This role is perfect for a confident, dedicated and enthusiastic self-starter who will thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment. The role will provide lots of opportunity for your personal and professional development within a diverse group in DfT and across Whitehall.

Your responsibilities will include, but aren’t limited to:
  • Assess the Director General’s (DG) work priorities by managing his inbox and action list
  • Proactively engage and work closely with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Identify, clarify and where possible manage and resolve issues relevant to the Group/DG before they cross the DG’s desk
  • Lead on CDG Communication plan and staff engagement products with the group
  • Line manage and oversee the work of the Personal Assistant (PA)
  • Lead on corporate responsibilities for the Group
  • Support the DG in successful delivery of his corporate responsibilities
