A leading tax advisory firm based in Cambridge is seeking a Private Client Tax Manager to lead the delivery of personal tax services and manage a portfolio of clients. This position offers a hybrid working model with three days in the office and two days from home.

Responsibilities

  • Lead delivery of personal tax services for clients.
  • Manage and develop strong client relationships.
  • Review complex Private Client tax returns and transmittal letters.
  • Manage junior team members and delegate tasks appropriately.
  • Brief junior colleagues and direct work
  • Review WIP, ensure fees are raised and provisions for doubtful time
  • Contribute to winning new work through proposals and tenders
  • Maintain up-to-date technical knowledge and attend seminars
  • Identify skills gaps and mentor team members
  • Review complex private client tax returns and approve final tax packs

Job description

Location: Cambridge office - 3 days in office, 2 days from home
The Role

A Private Client Tax Manager, you will lead the delivery of personal tax services, managing client portfolios and ensuring compliance with UK tax regulations. You provide expert advice on complex tax planning, oversee teams, and develop strong client relationships. Your role ensures exceptional client service and contributes to the growth of the tax practice. The ideal candidate should be able to:

  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of clients' business, objectives, challenges and risks sufficient to brief more junior colleagues on assignment and direct work accordingly
  • Demonstrate a broad understanding of client/customer market and environment.
  • Manage flexible working of self and assistants based around client needs and business deadlines
  • Review WIP on a monthly basis to ensure that fees are raised for any work that is completed or at a billable stage and that any doubtful time that may not be recovered is adequately provided, by updating CCH with the required provision
  • Gain experience of winning new work through input into the preparation of proposals, fee quotes and attending client tenders.
  • Maintains up to date technical knowledge and awareness of wider business advisory opportunities through technical reading and attending in house departmental seminars, to identify potential issues and emerging opportunities in own and other service areas of the business.
  • Identifies skills and knowledge gaps in department and actively makes suggestions to resolve
  • Aware of their unconscious bias and ensures this is appropriately considered throughout the candidate selection and recruitment process. Considers whether candidates fit within the firms wider values, doesn't solely focus on technical skills
  • Demonstrates a commitment to developing team members by assigning challenging work ensuring to give support where appropriate and necessary
  • Empowers team members to think independently.
  • Review complex Private Client tax returns.
  • Manage a large portfolio of clients with complex needs, build relationships with the client, and demonstrate good communication skills with the wider client team to ensure workflow is efficient and within client's expectations.
  • Demonstrates technical research skills.
  • Review final tax packs / transmittal letters for Private Tax clients and approve for issue to client.
  • Managing junior members of staff working on their clients, delegating appropriately.
