Job summary

Reporting to a Client Director, you will review returns prepared by junior staff, handle HMRC queries, and contribute to advisory projects while mentoring trainees and collaborating with other professionals across the firm.

Qualifications

• Experience in a supervisory role within personal tax.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Confident communicator, able to explain complex tax issues clearly.
• Willingness to mentor junior staff and support development.
• ATT and/or CTA qualification desirable but not essential.
• Salary circa £50,000 - £58,000 per annum, depending on experience.

Responsibilities

• Manage tax compliance for a portfolio of individuals, trusts and partnerships.
• Review personal tax returns prepared by junior staff, ensuring accuracy.
• Prepare tax returns for more complex cases.
• Liaise with clients and HMRC, handle queries and resolve issues.
• Offer tax planning advice and identify opportunities.
• Support trainees within the tax team and mentor colleagues.
• Collaborate with client managers and directors, and other professionals.

TPF Recruitment are delighted to be representing a highly reputable, large independent firm of chartered accountants in Southampton, who are seeking a Private Client Tax Assistant Manager to join their growing team.

As a key member of the private client tax team, you will be responsible for managing a varied portfolio of personal tax clients, whilst also supporting the development of junior staff and contributing to advisory projects. You will report to a Client Director and work closely with colleagues across the firm.

Responsibilities

• Manage tax compliance for a portfolio of individuals, trusts, and partnerships
• Review personal tax returns prepared by junior staff, ensuring accuracy and quality
• Prepare tax returns for more complex cases
• Liaise directly with clients and HMRC, handling queries and resolving tax issues
• Provide advice to clients on tax matters and identify planning opportunities
• Support and mentor trainees within the tax team
• Work collaboratively with client managers, directors, and other professionals such as IFAs and pension advisers

Requirements

The successful candidate will have/be:

• Previous experience in a supervisory role within personal tax
