Job summary

Grant Thornton in Milton Keynes or Manchester is seeking an experienced Tax Executive within Private Assurance. You will own the tax return process for a portfolio of ultra-high net worth clients, preparing returns and engaging with HMRC directly and with clients.

You will work with autonomy, supported by your manager, and benefit from structured learning opportunities while maintaining a healthy work-life balance.

Qualifications

• Experience in UK Personal Tax is required.
• A-Levels (or equivalent) and good Maths/English GCSE grades.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Oversee a portfolio of private tax clients and handle complex personal tax returns.
• Own the tax return process from start to finish with guidance from a manager.

The Private Assurance Team works with a huge variety of ultra-high net worth individuals, ensuring their personal tax compliance obligations are met. A look into the role

As an experienced technician within our Private Assurance team:

You will be trusted with a degree of autonomy in delivering your work, empowering you to take initiative and apply your judgement whilst knowing dedicated support is available.

You will oversee a portfolio of complex clients, handling complex tax returns and projects. You will take full ownership of your client portfolio and proactively manage the entire tax return process from start to finish, with support and guidance from your manager.

You will prepare tax returns and computations for manager review. Using your initiative to conduct well-supported technical research applying relevant legislation, tax authoritative guidance, HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) manuals and the firm's resources to effectively generate an opinion.

You will engage directly with clients and HMRC, developing relationships built on trust, accuracy, and responsiveness. You will provide clear, timely communication and become a reliable point of contact for day-to-day tax matters.

You will take responsibility for driving the tax return process for your clients, proactively managing deadlines, organising and prioritising day to day tasks and considering Work in Progress management/recoveries on assignments.

You will contribute to a culture of collaboration becoming a valued and proactive member of a specialised team. Developing and building strong internal relationships by networking within the tax service line and other service lines, gaining insights and sharing knowledge to enhance overall service delivery.

This role is key to the operation of our private tax function, contributing to Private Assurance's wider goals whilst maintaining professional excellence. As part of this, you will be supported with structured learning opportunities, on-the-job coaching, and exposure to varied work that will accelerate your technical and personal development.

Knowing you're right for us

Joining us as a Tax Executive, the minimum criteria you'll need is experience in UK Personal Tax, A-Levels or equivalent, good grades in Maths and English GCSE, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. It would be great if you had some of the following skills, but don't worry if you don't tick every box, we'll help you develop along the way.

• ATT qualification (or working towards) - study support is available

• Highly organised with an ability to work to deadlines and manage expectations
