About the Role

We are looking for a dedicated and resilient Prison Education Tutor to deliver high-quality academic learning to young offenders within a secure environment. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact by helping learners develop essential skills, gain qualifications, and build confidence for a more positive future.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, deliver, and assess engaging academic lessons (e.g., English, Maths, ICT, personal development) tailored to the needs of young learners.
  • Identify individual learning needs and create supportive, differentiated learning plans.
  • Motivate and inspire students who may have had disrupted or negative experiences with education.
  • Work collaboratively with prison staff, education teams, and support services to ensure a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Maintain accurate records, progress tracking, and compliance with regulatory and safeguarding standards.
  • Encourage positive behaviour, self-esteem, and personal responsibility through education.
About You

You will thrive in this role if you are patient, empathetic, and passionate about giving young people a second chance. You should have:

  • A recognised teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, DET, CertEd) or willingness to work towards one.
  • Experience teaching young people or adults, ideally those with complex barriers to learning.
  • Strong classroom management skills and the ability to remain calm and consistent.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build trust with reluctant learners.
  • A commitment to safeguarding, equality, and helping individuals progress.
