Job summary

The Ministry of Justice is recruiting prison officers for HMP Portland and HMP The Verne. You will help keep prisoners, staff and the public safe while building professional relationships, switching between roles as needed.

Shifts include evenings, nights, weekends and public holidays; after training you may choose from 37, 39 or 41 hours per week. Enhanced DBS, UK residency and nationality checks apply; visa sponsorship is unlikely.

• Strong numerical, written and spoken English abilities.

Responsibilities

• Keep the prison, staff and prisoners safe by acting as one team.
• Work directly with prisoners and build constructive, professional relationships with them.
• Protect the public and make a positive impact on prisoners' lives.
• Move between peacekeeper, counsellor and teacher roles within a single day.
• Work shifts covering evenings, nights, some weekends and public holidays.
• Support colleagues across the team.
