About the Role

Step into an exciting and highly rewarding role as a Prison Nurse (CAT A/CTC Cleared) in Greater Manchester. What You Will Do

Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments and create evidence-based care plans.

Provide primary healthcare services, including chronic disease management, wound care, vaccinations, and emergency responses.

Administer and document medication in line with NMC standards and prison healthcare protocols.

Manage acutely unwell patients, escalating clinical concerns as necessary.

Support individuals with complex physical and mental health needs, promoting rehabilitation and wellbeing.

Deliver nurse-led clinics and contribute to health promotion and public health initiatives within the prison.

Play an active role in suicide prevention and harm reduction strategies, ensuring safeguarding at all levels.

Maintain accurate clinical records using SystmOne and other prison healthcare systems.

Teamwork and Leadership

You’ll work alongside a dedicated multidisciplinary team, including GPs, psychiatrists, psychologists, pharmacists, and prison officers. You will also:

Provide mentorship and supervision to junior staff, students, and newly qualified nurses.

Participate in clinical supervision and reflective practice sessions.

Contribute to continuous improvement in care standards and service delivery.

Qualifications and Experience

Registered Nurse (Adult / Mental Health / Learning Disability) with current NMC registration.

Experience in primary care, emergency care, or offender healthcare.

Strong skills in safeguarding, risk assessment, and security awareness.

Proven ability to work effectively in high-security environments.

Prior experience in prison or secure healthcare settings.

Evidence of ongoing professional development in offender health or trauma-informed practice.
