Job description

Lead nationwide modelling that protects communities
Purpose And Scope Of The Role

Tetra Tech’s Water Consultancy is seeking a Principal Wastewater Modeller to lead technical delivery and team development across AMP8 and AMP9 wastewater programmes. You will define catchment strategies, lead hydraulic modelling and design inputs from feasibility through to detailed design, and take responsibility for HSE, quality and governance on multi‑million‑pound projects. Day‑to‑day you will oversee modelling standards, manage commercial performance and risk, develop bids and proposals, and represent the business to clients and delivery partners across London, Leeds, Newcastle, Sheffield, Derby, and Warrington.

Your Impact In This Position

Immediately you will raise modelling assurance and guide complex catchment interventions. Over the medium term you will build and mentor high‑performing modelling teams, embed improved workflows and influence investment decisions that reduce pollution and flood risk. Longer term the role offers strategic influence over national modelling standards, the opportunity to innovate with digital tools and the chance to shape low‑carbon, resilient solutions across major water company frameworks.

Core Capabilities
  • Hydraulic modelling leadership - Proven expertise in InfoWorks ICM, model development, calibration and deriving robust catchment strategies.
  • Technical assurance & governance - Deliver auditable, compliant modelling outputs and maintain rigorous quality and HSE governance across projects.
  • Commercial and programme performance - Manage forecasting, commercial risk, resource planning and contribute to bid and proposal development.
  • Team leadership & client engagement - Lead, mentor and grow multidisciplinary teams; present complex findings clearly to clients and stakeholders.
  • Digital innovation & data fluency - Drive continuous improvement using GIS, Python, FME, Power BI or similar tools to automate workflows and enhance evidence‑based decision making.
Skills, Qualifications And Experience

Degree in a relevant technical discipline; postgraduate qualification desirable. Chartered status or working towards chartership and professional affiliation (CIWEM, ICE, IWater) preferred.

Work patterns & locations

Hybrid working across regional offices with regular client and site visits; flexible arrangements supported to balance collaboration and focused technical work.

In alignment with the Equality Act 2010, we will make reasonable adjustments to support candidates and employees requiring additional arrangements. This could include adaptations to work schedules, training approaches, or the physical workspace.
