Job summary

TGR Haas F1 Team is seeking a Principal Vehicle Performance Engineer to lead performance definition and delivery for the race car, leveraging simulation, analysis, and cross-functional collaboration.

Reporting to the Performance Director, you will define targets, identify limitations, and develop methodologies to drive improvements across handling, tyres, and aero performance. This role requires extensive Formula 1 experience and a track record of technical leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline.
  • Significant Formula 1 experience in vehicle dynamics, simulation, track data, and aerodynamic performance analysis.
  • Strong understanding of Formula 1 performance development tools and processes.
  • Working knowledge of FIA Formula 1 Technical Regulations.
  • Experience leading cross-functional projects and delivering complex engineering programmes.
  • Proven technical leadership in high-performance environments.
  • Minimum of 15 years' professional experience, including at least 10 years in Formula 1.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Master's degree or PhD in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience contributing to the development of lap simulation, vehicle setup, and performance analysis tools.
  • Experience with the McLaren Electronic Systems toolchain.
  • Familiarity with Modelica, SimScape, or other physical modelling environments.
  • Experience with object-oriented programming languages such as C# or C++.

Job description

As our Principal Vehicle Performance Engineer, you will play a leading role in defining and delivering the performance potential of the TGR Haas F1 Team race car.

Reporting to the Performance Director, you will be responsible for defining performance targets, identifying vehicle limitations, and delivering analysis across vehicle handling, tyres, and aerodynamic performance. Working closely with Aero, Vehicle Dynamics, Vehicle Performance, Race Engineering, and Performance Systems groups, you will provide technical leadership and develop analysis methodologies and simulation capabilities that drive car performance improvements.

What You'll Be Doing
Performance Analysis & Development
  • Support the definition of car and aerodynamic development targets in line with overall performance objectives
  • Identify vehicle weaknesses and prioritise performance improvement opportunities
  • Deliver vehicle handling and performance analysis using simulation and track data
  • Provide clear, actionable recommendations to support race car development
Simulation & Tool Development
  • Develop advanced assessment methodologies using Driver-in-the-Loop simulators and offline simulation tools
  • Support aerodynamic development and upgrade evaluation through simulation-based analysis
  • Contribute to the development and validation of vehicle simulation tools alongside the Performance Systems Group
  • Drive improvements in simulation capability and performance analysis methodologies
Technical Leadership
  • Provide functional technical leadership across Vehicle Performance Group activities
  • Promote best practice across vehicle performance analysis and development
  • Support performance-driven decision-making through robust engineering analysis
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of tools, processes, and methodologies
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Coordinate activities across Aerodynamics, Vehicle Dynamics, Vehicle Performance, and Race Engineering groups
  • Work closely with stakeholders to align development priorities and performance objectives
  • Communicate findings and recommendations effectively across technical teams
  • Support the delivery of cross-functional performance projects
