Job summary

Penguin Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Senior/Principal Transport Planner to lead a varied portfolio of UK transport planning projects, working closely with clients, local authorities, developers and other consultants.

Responsibilities include preparing Transport Assessments and Transport Statements, Travel Plans, feasibility studies and sustainable transport strategies; mentoring juniors; building client relationships; and contributing to business development.

Qualifications

• Degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography or related discipline.
• Significant experience in transport planning consultancy.
• Strong knowledge of UK transport planning and development processes.
• Experience preparing Transport Assessments and/or Transport Statements.
• Experience with Travel Plans and sustainable transport strategies.
• Understanding of highways, access, parking and servicing requirements.
• Experience liaising with local highway and planning authorities.
• Excellent report writing and technical communication.
• Strong project management and organisational abilities.
• Experience managing client relationships and delivering projects to deadlines.
• Ability to work independently while developing junior colleagues.
• Commercially aware and client-focused.

About the Company

The consultancy provides specialist transport planning, highways and infrastructure advice throughout the development process, from early feasibility and site appraisal through planning applications and onto detailed design.

Its work includes Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, transport modelling, highway and infrastructure design, active-travel assessments, road safety, drainage and SuDS, as well as expert witness services for planning appeals and inquiries.

The Role

As a Senior/Principal Transport Planner, you will take a leading role in the delivery of transport planning projects, working closely with clients, local authorities, developers, architects and other technical consultants.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

• A degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography or a related discipline.
• Significant experience working within transport planning consultancy.
• Strong technical knowledge of the UK transport planning and development process.
• Proven experience preparing Transport Assessments and/or Transport Statements.
• Experience with Travel Plans and sustainable transport strategies.
• Good understanding of highways, access, parking and servicing requirements.
• Experience liaising and negotiating with local highway and planning authorities.
• Excellent report-writing and technical communication skills.
• Strong project management and organisational abilities.
• Experience managing client relationships and delivering projects to agreed deadlines.
• The ability to work independently while also supporting and developing junior colleagues.
• A commercially aware and client-focused approach.

Chartered status with CIHT or a relevant professional qualification would be advantageous, although candidates with strong relevant experience who are working towards professional accreditation will also be considered.
