Job summary

Kier Group is seeking a Principal Temporary Works Engineer to join our team across multiple locations, delivering complex temporary works design for a wide portfolio of projects and contributing to Kier's £11bn+ project pipeline.

You will lead temporary works design and checking, manage design projects with multidisciplinary teams, review third‑party designs, and provide technical leadership and mentoring to ensure safe, buildable solutions that meet client and Kier requirements.

Qualifications

• Chartered member of a relevant professional institution (CEng MICE) or substantial construction engineering experience.
• Experience leading complex construction engineering services, including temporary works design.
• Ability to provide technical leadership and design management across multidisciplinary teams.
• Proven track record delivering innovative, buildable solutions that improve project efficiency.

Responsibilities

Job Description

We're looking for a Principal Temporary Works Engineer to join our team based in various locations. Kier Design are a highly regarded Tier 1 Contractor, with a 750 plus strong design consultancy team, recognised as a Top 30 employer on Glassdoor. Join us as a Principal Temporary Works Engineer and become part of one of the UK's leaders in temporary works design and management and construction-related technical services. As part of our 100-strong team, you'll get to work on hundreds of projects across one of the most diverse and high-profile portfolios in the country, with access to Kier's £11bn+ project pipeline - supporting complex construction and major infrastructure schemes from concept through to delivery.

Locations: Birmingham / Bristol / Cambridge / Cardiff / Glasgow / Leeds / Liverpool / London / Manchester / Newcastle / Norwich / Plymouth - agile working, with up to 1-2 days per week from home if desired

Hours: 40 hours per week - some flexibility on hours available if desired, just let us know when you speak to us.

We're seeking a Principal Temporary Works Engineer to lead the delivery of complex construction engineering services across a variety of projects. This is an excellent opportunity to work with a collaborative team, providing innovative solutions that are both safe and buildable. You'll play a key role in supporting project delivery through temporary works design, bid support, value engineering, and technical leadership. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you'll have the chance to make a real impact, ensuring engineering excellence whilst mentoring and developing others. Your day to day will include:

• Leading temporary works design and checking, integrated with permanent works design where applicable
• Providing tender and bid support through feasibility studies, concept development, and alternative solutions
• Managing design projects, including leading multidisciplinary teams and acting as lead designer
• Reviewing third-party designs to ensure compliance with client and Kier requirements
• Offering technical expertise and advice as part of a centre of engineering excellence, supporting site teams and mentoring staff
