Job summary

Ultra Precision Control Systems in Cheltenham seeks a Principal Systems Engineer to support next-generation Stores Ejection products. You will work across pneumatic/military systems, requiring strong systems engineering and multi-disciplinary collaboration.

  • Produce interface control documents and system design documents.
  • Control and manage engineering change through the lifecycle.

  • Provide technical oversight and mentoring of other Systems Engineers.

Job Description

Eaton MSD Cheltenham is looking for a Principal Systems Engineer to support the development of the next generation of Stores Ejection products. The role will involve deployment on a diverse portfolio of products initially focused developing Pneumatic systems for Military applications. As these systems have a significant mechanical engineering portion previous experience with mechanical based aerospace products will be advantageous. To succeed in this role, candidates require a minimum of 5 years previous Systems Engineering experience, a good engineering or science degree preferably in systems engineering and be able to operate within a multi discipline team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Development of solutions for the military aerospace industries following a systems engineering approach.
  • Holding discussions with customers resulting in elicitation of key stakeholder requirements.
  • Development and derivation of customer requirements into realizable product requirements.
  • Requirements based verification and validation of product requirements, using manual and scripted methods.
  • Production of interface control documents, system design documents and other supporting documents.
  • Controlling and managing engineering change throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Preparation of technical proposals including estimations and presentations.
  • Technical oversight and mentoring of other Systems Engineers within a project team.

Personal attributes

  • Comfortable working independently and within a team, with the ability to identify the needs of a project or task, taking the initiative where appropriate to undertake the necessary work.
  • An eye for detail focusing on requirements and specification structure, applicability and language.
  • Understanding solution influences on the requirement set.
  • Ability to effectively communicate either verbally or written within a multi discipline team, with internal company authorities or customers.

Expectations, Background and Understanding:

  • Degree educated in an engineering or science discipline.
  • Awareness of Electronic, Software or Mechanical Engineering development.
  • Microsoft Office including Visio, Excel and Word.
  • Configuration Management Tools

Desirable Knowledge/Experience

  • Co-ordination and technical leadership of a multi-discipline project team to develop and deliver complex mechanical, electronic and embedded software solutions.
  • Experience of safety critical solution development in accordance with DO-178/DO-254 or IEC61508.
  • Familiarity/experience with MATLAB and Simulink
  • Familiarity with change control and problem reporting tools and processes.
  • Deep technical knowledge of Mechanical/Pneumatic based systems.
