Job summary

A leading technology company is seeking a Principal System Safety Engineer in the UK to provide specialist safety advice and ensure safety activities meet required standards. The role demands experience in safety analysis within a safety-critical industry and a relevant STEM degree. Knowledge of safety standards and excellent communication skills are essential. This is a 6-month contract position, offering up to £80 per hour.

Job description

Principal System Safety Engineer

Location: Luton

Contract: 6‑month contract

Pay: up to £80p/h (Inside IR35)

Responsibilities
  • Providing specialist safety advice to the SDA, to support their authorization of the Product safety, in accordance with Company processes
  • Ensuring that safety activities conducted on the Programme, within the scope of the TDP Systems, follow the plan described in the safety management plan and that the analysis is complete and correct.
  • Identifying and analysing intrinsic hazards, including mitigation to reduce the residual safety risks to an ALARP level for the ISANKE and ICSC TDP system
  • Identifying and analysing functional hazards, including mitigation to reduce the residual safety risks to an ALARP level for the ISANKE and ICSC TDP system
  • Eliciting ISANKE and ICSC TDP safety requirements and flowing these down to the appropriate level
  • Review individual TDP Subsystem System safety analysis and incorporating the outcomes in the integrated ISANKE and ICSC analysis.
  • Review aircraft level safety analysis and ensure it aligns with ISANKE and ICSC TDP Systems safety analysis
  • Documenting the integrated ISANKE and ICSC TDP Systems safety assessment as described in the safety management plan.
  • Presenting a summary of the integrated ISANKE and ICSC TDP Systems safety assessment at the ISANKE and ICSC TDP Design Reviews.
Experience required
  • Experience in safety analysis of complex systems in a safety-critical industry
  • A relevant STEM degree
  • Knowledge of lasers, radar systems, and/or sensors and defensive aids systems
  • Experience across a number of engineering lifecycle phases
  • Experience in leading and delivering a safety work package across multiple teams
  • Experience with ARP4754B, ARP4761A, RTCA DO-254, or DO-178C (not essential)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience of working with a variety of internal and external stakeholders of varying seniorities
  • A passion for promoting and improving safety culture
