Job summary

RoC Consulting in Manchester is seeking a strongly experienced Principal Structural Engineer to lead design and deliver building structures across common materials. You will manage projects from inception to completion, coordinate with the wider design team, and supervise junior engineers and technicians.

You will conduct surveys of existing structures, present design ideas via sketches and drawings, check colleague work, and liaise with architects, contractors and other construction

Qualifications

• Chartered status with IStructE or equivalent.
• Experience as a Principal Structural Engineer or senior equivalent.
• Strong communication and collaboration with design teams.
• Ability to supervise junior engineers and technicians.

Responsibilities

• Manage small projects from inception to completion and set delivery programmes.
• Coordinate with the design team and other professionals to meet project objectives.
• Check and review designs produced by others; ensure quality and accuracy.
• Supervise junior engineers and technicians; mentor and develop the team.
• Attend site and undertake surveys of existing structures; communicate design concepts via sketches.
• Liaise with architects, contractors and other construction professionals.

RoC Consulting (part of RSK Land and Development) is looking for a strongly experienced and motivated Principal Structural Engineer to support our established team based in Manchester, UK. RoC is an award-winning practice working across a wide range of project sectors and building types. From high rise city centre residential schemes to the refurbishment of heritage buildings our dynamic and dedicated team are well known and well respected in the Northwest and beyond.

The Role

The Principal Structural Engineer will be able to produce design calculations for building structures in all common materials without supervision and they will be able to produce concept designs for simple building structures. They will also be expected to manage small projects from inception to completion, communicating with the wider design team and supervise work undertaken by junior engineers and technicians. The role will also involve survey and assessment of existing structures, communication of design details and concepts via sketches and drawings, checking designs produced by others, liaising with architects, contractors and other construction professionals and attending site as required.

Responsibilities

• To manage small projects from inception to completion, to agree the programme for the work and to meet the deadlines set for the delivery of production information
• To understand the commercial context and scope of work for the projects they are managing and highlight any additional works that would be considered to be variations
• To cooperate with other design team members as reasonably required to meet the objectives of the project
• To be responsible for the quality and accuracy of the production information on those projects they are managing
• To check their own work and that of other engineers and technicians working for them
• To cooperate with colleagues as reasonably required to meet the objectives of the business
• To behave in a manner in keeping with expectations of a professional business
• To consider the health and safety of themselves and others both in the office and whilst on site and to undertake design risk assessments in line with the requirements of the Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations

Qualifications and Experience

To be a Principal Structural Engineer the engineer should have achieved or almost achieved chartered status with the Institution of Structural Engineers or other similar organisation or have developed the skills expected of a Principal Structural Engineer though years of relevant experience.
