Job summary

Arcadis UK seeks a Principal Structural Engineer based in the UK to lead design and coordination of structures across diverse projects. You will manage multidisciplinary teams, interface with clients, and drive technical quality and safety in every phase.

Working with sectors from industrial to education and government, you will mentor engineers, review work, and contribute to sustainable design solutions that improve quality of life.

Qualifications

• Professional qualification, preferably as chartered member of IStructE or the ICE.
• Existing SC clearance or eligibility to achieve SC security clearance.
• Strong technical ability, with deep knowledge of structural principles and project experience.
• Familiarity with commonly used structural materials and on-site considerations.
• Knowledge of commonly used structural analysis & design programs.
• Outstanding commitment to health and safety and knowledge of legal requirements.
• Excellent communication skills and experience in technical reporting.
• Attention to detail and ability to review others' work for quality.
• Interest in sustainable solutions and outcomes.
• Ability to manage teams and resources on projects.
• Willingness to share knowledge and mentor others.

Role description:

We are excited to be growing our Structural Engineering team within the Places Design Practice. We are looking for a Principal Structural Engineer based in UK with a strong technical background and experience in leading the structural aspects of projects. We work for a multitude of clients at national and international level on projects varied in type and size. We cover different sectors, with prevalent focus on industrial manufacturing, technology, education, government and defence.

In our engineering team you will create some of the world’s most iconic and innovative structures. You will design spaces that transform the world around us while bringing people together. Some of our recent projects include data centers, distribution centers, gigafactories and other manufacturing facilities for the automotive industry, factories for microprocessors and a variety of other industrial buildings, accommodation facilities, offices, retail premises, schools and other public buildings. We are active in the design or technical advisory at all stages of projects, both for new and existing buildings (including assets with stringent security requirements).

Role accountabilities:

Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will be responsible for leading the design and coordination of structures on a range of projects in our various sectors of activity. You will be managing the technical and commercial aspects of the projects by leading teams of structural engineers and BIM modellers, while interfacing with clients and other stakeholders. You will participate in our technical quality process by validating the work of other team members, both in the projects you lead and in other projects. You will also have the opportunity to mentor engineers and other colleagues in the context of projects or in the wider endeavours of our teams.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Professional qualification, preferably as chartered member of the IStructE or the ICE.
• Existing SC clearance or the eligibility to achieve SC security clearance.
• Strong technical ability, based on deep knowledge of structural principles and developed through experience in a variety of projects.
• Familiarity with commonly used structural materials, including knowledge of practical aspects of their specification and use on site.
• Knowledge of some commonly used structural analysis and design programs.
• Outstanding commitment to health and safety and knowledge of relevant legal requirements.
• Excellent communication skills and experience in preparation of technical reports.
• Attention to detail and acumen when reviewing the work of others to ensure quality.
• Interest in sustainable solution and commitment to sustainable outcomes.
• Ability to successfully manage teams and resources on projects.
• Willingness to share your knowledge and mentor others.
