Job summary

Gattaca is seeking a Lead/Principal Engineer for Secondary Steel to own design across major offshore wind projects. Based in London or Bristol, the role blends technical leadership with hands-on analysis from concept to detailed execution, supporting innovation and high-quality delivery.

The candidate will lead design teams, mentor junior engineers, and engage with clients to ensure project success in a hybrid work setting.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering required.
• Extensive experience in secondary steel design for offshore structures.
• Proven background in offshore wind projects, including substations and turbine foundations.
• Strong knowledge of design standards and structural analysis tools SESAM, ANSYS, ABAQUS.
• Experience leading engineering teams and delivering design packages.

Lead/ Principal Engineer: Secondary Steel

Location: London or Bristol (Hybrid Working)

An excellent opportunity has become available for a Lead/Principal Engineer with expertise in Secondary Steel to join a dynamic offshore wind engineering team.

This role will see you take technical ownership of secondary steel design across major offshore projects, leading from concept through to detailed execution while supporting innovation and high quality engineering delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership on the design and analysis of secondary steel structures, including platforms, ladders, handrails and cable support systems
• Lead design activities from concept through to detailed engineering
• Perform and review structural analysis and calculations
• Ensure designs meet industry standards, safety requirements and project specifications
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated engineering solutions
• Engage with clients and stakeholders to support project delivery
• Mentor and support junior engineers within the team
• Contribute to continuous improvement and innovative design approaches

Requirements

• Degree in Civil, Structural or Mechanical Engineering (or similar)
• Extensive experience in secondary steel design within offshore structures
• Proven background in offshore wind projects, particularly substations and turbine foundations
• Strong knowledge of relevant design standards and structural analysis tools (e.g. SESAM, ANSYS, ABAQUS)
• Experience leading engineering teams and managing design delivery
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
