Job summary

Simple Machines in London is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to lead delivery of complex, scalable systems across backend services, APIs, frontend components, data pipelines and cloud infrastructure.

This hands-on role collaborates with engineering teams and clients, owning outcomes end-to-end in a consultative environment, with hybrid work and broad exposure to ML-enabled platforms.

Qualifications

• Hands-on role building and delivering complex, scalable systems end-to-end.
• Experience designing data-driven APIs and large-scale web services.
• Strong testing discipline (unit/integration, TDD/BDD) across the stack.

Responsibilities

• Design and build backend services for a highly scalable platform.
• Own the design of APIs, applications, and supporting infrastructure.
• Document technical designs and requirements for internal teams and clients.
• Deliver end-to-end solutions: build, automate, deploy, operate, and support.
• Collaborate with clients and delivery teams to translate business requirements into robust solutions.
• Work within an Agile, iterative delivery model.
• Operate in a hybrid setup with remote and in-person team members.
