Job summary

AVEVA in Cambridge, United Kingdom, is seeking a Principal Software Engineer to maintain and enhance desktop and cloud applications. You’ll join scrum teams focused on engineering disciplines, delivering modernisations of our extensive feature set.

You will contribute to building robust software using C++/C#, participate in automated testing and refactoring, and ensure timely delivery within a hybrid working model. This role requires strong collaboration and technical leadership.

Job Title: Principal Software Engineer

Location: Cambridge, United Kingdom – Hybrid


Employment Type: Full Time


The Job

As part of the E3D development group, you’ll be responsible for maintaining and enhancing applications that support both desktop and cloud solutions. You will work in scrum teams aligned to our customers’ engineering disciplines, contributing to consistent delivery and modernisation of our product’s extensive feature set.


Key Responsibilities


  • Design, develop and implement functional features as per Product Owner requests.

  • Analyse, investigate and debug issues found both internally (by the team) and externally (by customers).

  • Drive quality throughout our product by taking the initiative on automated testing, architectural refactoring, and communal best practices.

  • Demonstrate sound decision making on individual and team workloads to ensure it is delivered in a timely manner.


Essential Requirements


  • Experience developing professional software applications using C++ and/or C#.

  • Awareness of industrial engineering and/or factory plant design.

  • Comfortable with source control systems (GIT) and automated build pipelines (Azure DevOps).

  • Practices Agile and Scrum methodologies.

  • Experience working with Fortran and/or PML.

Hybrid working
