Role Description

We are seeking an accomplished Principal Signalling Engineer to join our growing Rail Scotland team. This is a unique opportunity to step into a senior leadership role within a world‑class consultancy shaping the future of rail infrastructure across the UK and beyond. You will lead high‑performing multi‑disciplinary teams, drive technical excellence, and cultivate strategic relationships with clients and industry partners. At Arcadis you will play a pivotal part in delivering innovative sustainable and digitally enabled signalling solutions that improve mobility and connect communities.

Role Accountabilities
  • Lead the technical direction and delivery of complex rail signalling projects ensuring excellence in safety, quality and innovation.
  • Drive client engagement and business development establishing Arcadis as a trusted partner across the rail industry.
  • Mentor, develop and inspire multi‑disciplinary teams fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with global Arcadis experts integrating best practices and digital solutions into local project delivery.
  • Oversee project governance, risk management and commercial performance ensuring projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Represent Arcadis at industry forums contributing thought leadership to our clients and the wider industry.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Significant experience leading complex rail signalling design and delivery projects ideally as Contractor Responsible Engineer (CRE) or equivalent.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of UK rail industry standards, governance and client expectations.
  • IRSE Signalling Principles Licence (1.1.550) and IRSE Signalling Verifiers Licence (1.1.160) essential.
  • Preferably Degree‑qualified in a relevant engineering discipline; Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or equivalent.
  • Track record in managing and developing technical teams with a collaborative and empowering leadership style.
  • Strong commercial acumen and stakeholder management skills.
  • Commitment to promoting sustainability, inclusion and digital innovation within project delivery.
