Job summary

Hamilton Barnes is seeking a Principal Security Consultant in the United Kingdom to define and lead cyber security assurance strategy across Defence and Public Sector programmes. You will influence risk decisions, shape governance, and guide organisations through accreditation challenges.

You will engage with senior leadership, own assurance frameworks, and guide risk decisions while ensuring consistent security across multiple programmes.

Qualifications

• Extensive experience in security assurance leadership.
• Proven track record of owning programme or organisational risk decisions.
• Experience defining assurance frameworks and governance models.
• Deep expertise in ISO/IEC 27001, NIST SP 800-53, and Cyber Assessment Framework.
• Strong understanding of Defence assurance and accreditation (JSPs).
• Ability to influence at senior leadership level.
• Active SC clearance is required.

Responsibilities

• Define and lead security assurance strategy across programmes or portfolios.
• Act as senior authority on cyber risk and accreditation.
• Engage with senior stakeholders and governance boards.
• Lead risk acceptance and assurance decision-making.
• Oversee application of ISO 27001, NIST SP 800-53, and CAF.
• Ensure consistency of assurance across multiple programmes.
• Support strategic growth and client engagement.

This role offers the opportunity to define and lead cyber security assurance strategy across major Defence and Public Sector programmes. You will operate at a senior level, influencing risk decisions, shaping governance, and guiding organisations through complex accreditation and compliance challenges.
