Job summary

UCB is seeking a Principal Scientist for SPR and biophysical assays at our Slough, Berkshire campus to drive discovery programs.

You will design, optimize, and lead complex SPR and biophysical studies, generate binding and kinetics data, and influence project decisions. Mentoring junior scientists and championing new technologies and automation will be expected as part of a collaborative, hybrid-first research environment.

Qualifications

• PhD, MSc, or equivalent in a relevant science discipline.
• Extensive SPR experience in antibody or small molecule discovery.
• Proven ability to develop and validate complex biophysical assays.
• Strong understanding of drug discovery and candidate progression.
• Excellent communication for influencing cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and optimize SPR and biophysical assays for discovery programs.
• Generate binding, affinity, kinetics, competition, and epitope binning data.
• Lead complex studies addressing novel modalities.
• Champion new technologies, automation, and process improvements.
• Present data and influence project strategy across teams.
• Mentor scientists and contribute to a collaborative environment.
• Provide coaching and development to junior staff.
• Support people leadership activities as needed.
