Job summary

Priory Beverley House in Edgbaston, Birmingham is seeking an experienced Principal Psychologist to lead the psychology service within a rehabilitation setting for complex mental health needs. The role is site-based, with Monday–Friday 9am–5pm hours and a substantial 37.5 hour week.

The successful candidate will hold HCPC registration, a postgraduate qualification, and be trained in at least two therapeutic modalities, with relevant post-qualification experience.

Qualifications

• HCPC registered Psychologist with a recognized postgraduate qualification.
• Formal training in at least two therapeutic modalities.
• Post-qualification experience suitable for a Principal Psychologist role.
• Newly qualified psychologists or HCPC-unregistered applicants are not eligible.

Responsibilities

• Lead psychology provision for a designated ward or group of patients.
• Provide high-quality psychological input responsive to individual patient needs, risks and presentations.
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary team to support patient care.
• Undertake comprehensive psychological assessments, formulation and evaluation.
• Deliver evidence-based interventions, individually and in groups.
• Provide line management to Assistant Psychologists with supervision.
• Contribute to development and delivery of effective psychological care.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced Principal Psychologist to play a key role in delivering and developing the psychology service within the hospital/unit.

• Full-time -37.5 hours per week


• Salary is up to £68,250 per annum


• HCPC registration is required

This is a site-based role, working Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm.

Priory Beverley House, Edgbaston, Birmingham is a level 2 rehabilitation service for females with complex mental health needs, including emotionally unstable personality disorder, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. It is accessible by public transport, with local bus routes along City Road and Five Ways railway station approximately 1 mile from the service.

You will be responsible for:

• Leading the psychology provision for a designated ward or group of patients.


• Providing high-quality psychological input that is responsive to individual patient needs, risks and presentations.


• Working collaboratively as part of the wider multidisciplinary team to support patient care.


• Undertaking comprehensive psychological assessments, formulation and evaluation to understand patients’ needs and inform their care.


• Delivering evidence-based psychological interventions, both individually and in groups, tailored to patients’ presentations and care pathways.


• Providing line management to Assistant Psychologists, offering day-to-day guidance, support and supervision.


• Contributing to the development and delivery of effective psychological care within the service.

Applicants must hold a completed and recognised postgraduate qualification leading to HCPC registration and must be currently registered with the HCPC as a Psychologist. Applicants must also have formal training in at least two therapeutic modalities and have demonstrated relevant post-qualification experience and competencies appropriate to a Principal Psychologist role.

Newly qualified psychologists or those not yet HCPC registered would not be eligible for this position.
