Principal Performance & Dynamics Engineer

The future of aircraft engineering, developed by you. Department: Systems Integration & Test Team: Performance & Dynamics Reports to: Systems Integration Engineering Group Leader

Purpose: As Principal Performance & Dynamics Engineer, you will serve as a technical specialist responsible for Performance and Dynamics (P&D) analysis of mechanical and hydraulic systems, with application to aircraft landing gears, including shock-absorbers, extension/retraction and steering systems. Responsibilities include supporting requirements definition, validation and verification, and contributing to the development of analysis methods and tools.

Job Requirements

What do I need to succeed in the role?

  • Experience of landing gear structures and systems
  • Experience of dynamic analysis and computational modelling and simulation
  • Model correlation and validation experience
  • Knowledge of airworthiness requirements and certification for landing gear and equipment
  • Experience of using MATLAB/Simulink, MSC ADAMS, and AMESim
  • Proficient in coding, e.g. Python
  • Ability and willingness to communicate and work with all disciplines of engineering and external suppliers

Qualifications: Minimum of HNC level in an engineering discipline with relevant experience in an engineering discipline.

Your main responsibilities in this role will be:

  • Act as a technical expert for the P&D team, providing high level technical guidance as and when required.
  • Actively partake in the Safran Landing Systems Experts Network, sharing best practice across the SLS group.
  • Use technical expertise to influence and guide industry standards, working closely with specific industry bodies.
  • Act as a mentor and coach to the wider P&D team, sharing technical knowledge
  • Technical decision-making responsibility for relevant and assigned program/project
  • Provide solutions to technical problems within P&D
  • Airworthiness technical signatory responsibilities for the P&D domain
  • Build computational models and run simulations
  • Support technical audits
  • Calculate static and dynamic loads
  • Conduction performance and frequency response analyses
  • Conduct stability, shimmy, modal analysis and failure case analyses
  • Correlate and validate computational models
  • Write and validate performance and dynamics requirements
  • Define and document simulation cases and pass/fail criteria
  • Optimise design solutions in conjunction with other engineering disciplines
  • Define test requirements and analyse and interpret test results
