Job summary

Mott MacDonald in the UK is seeking a Principal Nuclear Consultant to support a growing pipeline of Technical Advisory opportunities. This UK-based role offers flexibility in location with travel within the UK and abroad.

Qualifications

  • A relevant degree or equivalent industrial experience.
  • Chartership with a recognised professional institution.
  • Experience or knowledge of the UK nuclear sector, with an understanding of current trends and opportunities.
  • Knowledge of UK legislation, policy, regulatory guidance and best practice relating to environmental aspects of licensed nuclear sites.
  • Experience of radioactive substances and conventional environmental permitting required on nuclear sites, including the application of Best Available Techniques.
  • Consenting experience within the nuclear sector or another regulated industry, preferably including Development Consent Order (DCO) experience.
  • Strong team-working and collaborative skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients and colleagues across different levels and disciplines.

Overview of the role

Are you passionate about delivering innovative solutions and helping shape the future of the nuclear industry? Mott MacDonald's Nuclear, Defence and Civil business is looking for an experienced Principal Nuclear Consultant to support a growing pipeline of exciting Technical Advisory opportunities.

This UK-based role offers flexibility in location, with opportunities for travel both within the UK and internationally.

Key responsibilities and duties include:
  • Provide robust and timely technical and strategic advice across our nuclear client portfolio, including advice to:
    • Nuclear licensees
    • Financial organisations
    • National and international government organisations
    • Regulatory bodies
  • Provide advice across areas including:
    • Deliverability
    • Scheduling
    • Technology assessment
    • Licensing
    • Validation
    • Permitting
    • Consenting
  • Work collaboratively with the wider business to promote nuclear opportunities and provide clients with a comprehensive advisory offering
  • Ensure Mott MacDonald remains up to date internally on key developments within the nuclear sector, including regulations, policy and best practice
  • Contribute to business development activities, including thought leadership, attendance at industry events and client engagement
  • Support the development and mentoring of colleagues at various levels
  • Identify ongoing resource requirements and support recruitment activities
  • Promote Mott MacDonald's Advisory business both internally and externally
Candidate specification

Essential:

  • Proficiency in one or more individual environmental impact assessment topics
  • Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA)
  • Familiarity with safety case development, including environmental safety cases, and engagement with nuclear regulators
  • Lenders Technical Advisory (LTA) work
  • Radioactive waste management and radiation protection
  • Specific UK nuclear licensed sites
  • International nuclear sector experience
  • Sustainability, including carbon management and industry standards such as BREEAM and PAS 2080
