Job summary

BakerHicks is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead a Manchester building services team, delivering high-quality HVAC and public health systems across sectors. You will guide Engineers and Technicians, integrate with Associates, and manage day-to-day team operations on medium-to-large projects.

The role requires Chartered membership with CIBSE, strong leadership, and a track record of delivering complex building services.

Qualifications

  • Chartered member of CIBSE and eligible for professional registration.
  • Experience delivering projects in at least one sector BakerHicks operates in.
  • Experience managing small teams from Apprentices/Graduates to Senior Engineer level.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Strong ability to develop enduring relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Outstanding design and technical detailing and specification writing experience.
  • Experience contributing to bids, proposals and tender specifications.
  • Essential technical experience: Design of Mechanical Building Services (HVAC and Public Health).
  • Experience using Navisworks, AutoCAD, Revit and IES Thermal Modelling.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering services design and consultancy work under direction of the line manager or project lead.
  • Produce design deliverables (drawings, specifications, reports), site surveys, construction stage duties, client liaison and project management.
  • Check calculations and drawings to meet quality and compliance controls and customer requirements.

  • Contribute to enquiry plans, tender reviews and fee estimates.

As our team has grown, we have an opportunity for aPrincipal Mechanical Engineer, to join our building services team in Manchester, where you will lead and develop an enthusiastic and committed team of Engineers and Technicians to deliver high-quality output on projects and support the Associates in the day-to-day management of the local Mechanical Services team.

This team works across various sectors and experience in one of these sectors would be preferred.

About You

As a Principal Mechanical Engineer – Building Services,you areexpectedto have astrongtrack record in one or, ideally,multiple sectors that BakerHicks operates in. You will be a CharteredMechanical Building Services Engineerwithexperience in managingmedium-sized projects or managing packages on large projects.

You’ll lead and develop an enthusiastic and committed team of Engineers and Technicians to deliver high quality output on projects and support the Associates in day-to-day management of the local Mechanical Services team. Client care and repeat business is crucial to BakerHicks success, so you’ll need to be able to develop and nurture relationships with our clients (both internal and external)

Key Purpose

  • Design and specify all aspects ofMechanical Servicesin accordance with current guidelines, standards,regulationsand project deliverables
  • Management ofsmall projectteams, including recruitment, resourcing, professionaldevelopmentand engagement to deliver high quality output to all projects
  • Management of Mechanical Services involvement in projects, including time, cost, quality and resources, client relationship management and delivery
  • Monitor and champion quality and compliance controls within local teams and projects

Responsibilities

  • Provideengineering services design and consultancy work on behalf of BakerHicks under the direction of the line manager or project lead.
  • Producedesign deliverables (includingdrawings,specificationsand reports), site surveys, construction stage duties, client liaison with members of design/construction teams, project management, costing andensure progressagainstthe project brief
  • Check calculations and production of detailed drawings to ensure engineering designs meet appropriate quality and compliance controls, project brief and customer requirements.
  • Time, cost, quality, resource and delivery management including communication with the department and management to ensure that resource and project requirements are clearly understood and met.
  • Contribute to the preparation of enquiry plans, tender reviews, fee estimate sheets, scopes of work and change controls.
  • Monitoring of project fee spend and deliver commercial objectives including invoicing and Cost Value Report management.

Knowledge,ExperienceandQualifications

  • Chartered Member ofChartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE)
  • Significant experience of delivering projects in at least one sector that BakerHicks operates in.
  • Experience managing small teams from Apprentices and Graduates to Senior Engineer level.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to eloquently present complex ideas.
  • Strong ability to develop enduring relationships with both internal and external stakeholders that deliver long term benefits.
  • Outstanding design, technical detailing and specification writing experience.
  • Experience of contributing to bids, proposals and tender specifications.
  • Essential technical experience: Expert design of Mechanical Building Services systems, including HVAC and Public Health
  • Experience in using the following specialist software:
  • Navisworks
  • NBS Create / Chorus
  • Demonstratableexperienceof delivering multi-disciplinary projectsinseveralsectors that BakerHicks operates in.
  • Experience in managing multi-disciplinary teams to deliver complex projects.
  • Experience in using the following specialist software:
  • IES Thermal Modelling
  • AutoCAD
  • Revit
