Overview

Principal Mechanical Design Engineer - Buckinghamshire on site 4 days pw

Copello are working with a defence client who are looking for a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to design, develop and maintain complex defence systems and products. This includes defence standard communications, navigation and electronic warfare equipment for use in demanding aerospace environments.

As a Principal Mechanical Engineer you role would provide innovative solutions to challenging design problems. This covers the full development lifecycle from requirements capture, system level design, concept development, simulation, prototyping, optimisation and verification.

This role also includes the line management of the mechanical design team, providing expert technical guidance and pastoral care as a capability lead within the business unit.

Responsibilities
  • Support the generation of new business by managing bids, developing concept designs, task estimation and generating proposals
  • Design, develop and test innovative solutions to avionics design problems
  • Maintain knowledge on emerging technologies and incorporate relevant innovations into product designs
  • Requirements analysis
  • Generate documentation to support product development, qualification and verification
  • Support the qualification and review of designs to requirements, this will include formal testing and analysis
  • Support, develop and mentor mechanical design engineers in the business unit
  • Line management of a team of Mechanical Engineers: resource allocation and work package management
Qualifications and experience
  • Educated to degree level in a relevant Engineering field
  • Strong theoretical and practical mechanical design experience
  • Strong experience of environmental testing of aerospace products
  • Understanding of FEA and CFD tools
  • Chartered Engineer status (or working towards)
  • Requirements management experience
  • Project management experience
  • A broad understanding of materials, treatments and finishes and their environmental implications
  • Experience of developing mechanical design solutions through entire design lifecycle
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Design for Manufacture and Assembly
