Job summary

Proactive Global is seeking a Lead / Principal Electronics Engineer in Woking, Surrey to drive design and leadership across the hardware team. You will deliver innovative electronic products from concept to production, guiding technical direction and ensuring robust designs.

You will lead a team, define architectures, mentor engineers, and collaborate with mechanical and software colleagues while shaping the future of our electronics capability.

Qualifications

• 10+ years' experience in electronics design and development.
• Proven experience leading engineering teams or delivering business-critical projects.
• Strong experience designing complex electronic systems integrated with mechanical and software elements.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop the electronics engineering function.
• Translate customer requirements into robust engineering solutions.
• Define system architectures and make key technical decisions.
• Design complex electronic systems including schematic capture, PCB layout and circuit development.
• Produce and maintain specifications, verification plans and compliance documentation.
• Develop validation and production test strategies for high-quality products.
• Manage design verification, integration, qualification and EMC testing activities.
• Collaborate with customers, suppliers and cross-functional engineering teams.
• Manage external engineering partners and subcontractors; explore emerging technologies.

We are seeking an experienced Lead / Principal Electronics Engineer to join a growing hardware engineering team working on the development of cutting‑edge electronic products. This is an exciting opportunity for a technically strong engineer who enjoys combining hands‑on electronic design with team leadership and strategic engineering decision‑making. You will play a key role in delivering innovative new products from concept through to production, leading electronic design activities, guiding technical direction, and helping develop engineering capability across the business.

What You'll Be Doing

• Leading and developing the electronics engineering function, ensuring capability, capacity and processes support business objectives.
• Capturing and translating customer and stakeholder requirements into robust engineering solutions.
• Defining system architectures and making key technical decisions throughout the product lifecycle.
• Designing complex electronic systems including schematic capture, PCB layout and circuit development.
• Producing and maintaining specifications, verification plans and compliance documentation.
• Developing validation and production test strategies to ensure reliable, high-quality products.
• Managing design verification, integration, qualification and EMC testing activities.
• Supporting new product introduction and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Conducting root cause analysis and resolving complex design and production issues.
• Collaborating with customers, suppliers and cross‑functional engineering teams.
• Managing external engineering partners and subcontractors. Researching and implementing emerging technologies to improve product performance and reduce costs.

What We're Looking For

Essential Experience:

• 10+ years' experience in electronics design and development.
• Proven experience leading engineering teams or delivering business‑critical projects.
• Strong experience designing complex electronic systems integrated with mechanical and software elements.

Experience with:

• BLDC motor drive circuits
• Brushless motor systems
• High‑speed digital design
• Analogue signal conditioning
• Power supplies and protection circuitry
• Video signal processing
• Sensor interfaces (optical, magnetic, temperature)
