Precept Recruit is seeking a Principle FPGA Engineer for an on-site Derby role. You will lead FPGA development across the lifecycle, defining interfaces, building test benches, and delivering high-quality artefacts in a dynamic, UK sovereign tech environment. Some UK travel may be required.

The ideal candidate has eight+ years in FPGA design, strong VHDL skills, TCL scripting, and familiarity with Riviera Pro or QuestaSim, plus Git/SVN version control, to drive advanced, secure FPGA solutions.

Qualifications

• Eight+ years in FPGA design and development.
• Extensive VHDL experience with FPGA tooling.
• Knowledge of current FPGA/SoC tech and build toolchains.
• Proficient TCL scripting and design artefact production.
• Experience with Riviera Pro or QuestaSim.
• Version control experience (Git/SVN).
• Degree in a STEM field or equivalent experience.

Security Requirements

• Be British citizens.
• Have resided in the UK for at least 7 of the last 10 years.
• Be eligible to obtain and maintain unconditional Developed Vetting (DV) security clearance.

What you will be doing

Reporting to the Head of FPGA Development, you will play a leading role throughout the FPGA development lifecycle. The role will continue to evolve as technologies and products develop, giving you opportunities to broaden your knowledge and strengthen your technical expertise. Some UK travel, including travel between company sites, may be required.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Architecting FPGA systems for new products
• Capturing and interpreting technical requirements
• Leading the design and development of FPGA modules
• Defining and coordinating interfaces between internal and external components
• Developing test benches to verify correct operation
• Producing clear, high-quality design documentation and engineering artefacts
• Diagnosing complex issues and developing effective solutions
• Collaborating with specialists across a multidisciplinary engineering team
• Keeping current with emerging FPGA technologies, development tools and engineering practices

What we are looking for

You will have substantial experience in FPGA design and development, together with the judgement and technical confidence to take ownership of challenging work.

Essential experience and qualifications

• A minimum of eight years' FPGA design experience
• Extensive experience using VHDL for FPGA development
• Strong knowledge of current FPGA and SoC technologies
• Proficiency in TCL scripting
• Extensive experience with Riviera Pro or QuestaSim
• Experience with using FPGA toolchain through to build
• Experience using version-control systems such as Git and SVN
• The ability to produce detailed, high-quality design artefacts
• A degree or postgraduate qualification in a relevant STEM discipline or demonstrate suitable experience.
