Job summary

Sweco UK is seeking a Principal Fire Engineer to join our Building Safety team. You will provide strategic fire safety advice across commercial, residential, infrastructure and transportation projects, with flexible work options to suit three days in office or on site.

You will lead projects from concept to completion, develop technical knowledge, engage with clients, and contribute to high safety standards within a multidisciplinary engineering environment.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Fire Engineering and membership of the Institute of Fire Engineers (IFE) or equivalent.
  • Proven experience in a similar senior fire safety role.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of Building Regulations Part B, Fire Safety Order and relevant guidance (BS9999, BS7479, BS9991, BB100, HTM05).
  • Experience with fire engineered solutions and risk assessment.
  • Strong problem solving, contingency planning and practical, innovative solutions.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, adaptable to audiences.
  • Excellent consultancy, communication and relationship management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop Fire Safety Strategies during Design and Construction stages.
  • Prepare technical engineering analyses using prescribed guidance and methods.
  • Support the team in developing technical knowledge.
  • Carry out site visits when required.
  • Attend internal and external meetings.

What We Are Looking For

We are currently recruiting a talented and motivated Principal Fire Engineer to join our Building Safety team. This role can be worked flexibly, which to us means at least 3 days per week either in the office or on site with the remaining days at home. We also offer the opportunity to flex your start and finish times. Working on projects across multiple sectors you will provide strategic fire safety advice across the built environment developments including commercial, residential, infrastructure and transportation. This role presents a real depth and breadth of some of our most exciting project schemes and the opportunity to work in a team of highly skilled, talented engineers.

The Main Responsibilities Of The Role Include
  • Developing Fire Safety Strategies during Design and Construction stages.
  • Preparing technical engineering analysis using relevant guidance documents and methods i.e. prescriptive and performance based.
  • Supporting the team in developing technical knowledge.
  • Carrying out site visits when required.
  • Attending internal and external meetings.
  • Supporting the team in developing technical knowledge.
  • Overseeing and managing projects from inception to completion.
  • Liaising with clients on a daily basis.
To Be Successful In This Role You’ll Have
  • A degree in Fire Engineering or similar, membership of the Institute of Fire Engineers (IFE) or equivalent.
  • Proven experience working in a similar role.
  • Excellent all round up to date knowledge of Part B of the Building Regulations, Fire Safety Order and other relevant legislation and fire design guidance documents for example BS9999, BS7479, BS9991, BB100 and HTM05.
  • A proven background in fire safety engineering with an understanding of fire engineered solutions
  • Good problem solving/contingency planning skills with ability to find quick, innovative and practical solutions
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to adapt your style to suit difference audiences.
  • Excellent consultancy, communication and relationship management skills.
