Job summary

G.Network Communications in London is seeking an experienced Cabinet Engineer to maintain and troubleshoot fibre network cabinets and the equipment inside them, including Cisco devices. You will diagnose faults, perform planned and reactive maintenance, and support network upgrades.

The role requires knowledge of electrical systems, power distribution and fibre connectivity, and the ability to work across disciplines with minimal supervision to keep services running.

Qualifications

• Proven cabinet/fibre/telecoms engineering experience.

About the Role

The Cabinet Engineer is an experienced, multi-skilled engineer responsible for the maintenance, operation, fault finding and technical support of fibre network cabinets and the equipment contained within them. The role requires a strong understanding of cabinet infrastructure, electrical systems, power distribution, fibre connectivity and network equipment, including Cisco devices.

The engineer is responsible for diagnosing and resolving complex technical faults, carrying out planned and reactive maintenance, supporting network upgrades and ensuring cabinet infrastructure remains safe, reliable and operational. The role involves working across multiple technical disciplines and requires the ability to identify faults, determine root causes and implement effective solutions with minimal impact to network services.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, upgrade and commission fibre network cabinets and associated equipment.
• Carry out electrical and power fault finding, including AC/DC supplies, batteries, PSUs, breakers and distribution equipment.
• Install, maintain and troubleshoot Cisco and other network equipment, including basic network and connectivity faults.
• Carry out fibre patching, testing, fault finding and fibre connectivity work.
• Diagnose and resolve complex faults across electrical, power, fibre, networking and hardware systems.
• Respond to network faults and outages, working with the NOC and other engineering teams to restore services.
• Carry out planned preventative maintenance and identify potential equipment or cabinet issues before they cause failures.
• Support cabinet upgrades, network expansion projects, equipment replacements and migrations.
• Maintain accurate cabinet records, asset information, test results and fault reports.
• Follow all health & safety procedures, RAMS, permits and company standards when carrying out work.
• Work independently as an experienced engineer and provide technical support and guidance on complex cabinet-related issues.

Qualifications

• Relevant technical qualification in Telecommunications, Electrical Engineering, Networking or a related field.
• Appropriate electrical and health & safety training/certification.
• Relevant fibre optic and network equipment training.
• Cisco qualifications or equivalent networking knowledge would be beneficial.
• Full UK driving licence.

Required Skills

• Significant experience working as a Cabinet, Fibre, Telecoms or Network Engineer.
• Strong hands-on experience working with telecommunications/network cabinets and associated equipment.
• Experience with electrical fault finding, power systems and equipment maintenance.
• Experience installing, maintaining and fault-finding Cisco switches, routers and other network equipment.
• Good understanding of fibre infrastructure, patching, testing and fault finding.
• Practical experience carrying out OTDR and iOLM testing on live fibre networks, including interpreting test results and using them to identify and diagnose fibre faults.
• Experience tracing fibre faults and identifying issues such as breaks, high loss, reflections, poor splices and connector-related faults.
• Experience diagnosing faults across power, electrical, fibre, networking and hardware.
• Experience working independently on planned and reactive maintenance and responding to network faults.
• Experience supporting network upgrades, equipment replacements and infrastructure projects.
• Proven data centre experience within the telecommunications industry.
