Job summary

Murphy is recruiting a Principal Estimator to lead a major programme of works within the Transportation team at our Golborne office. You will drive best practice in estimating, develop junior staff, and coordinate with project designers to ensure accurate tenders.

Educated to degree level with experience as a lead on large projects for a Tier 1 contractor, Chartered status preferred. Candy estimating software knowledge is advantageous.

Qualifications

• Educated to degree level or equivalent in a related discipline or field
• Experience as primary lead on a large-scale programme for a Tier 1 contractor
• Chartered status preferable
• Skilled in apprising management and client on quality and risks of estimates
• Experienced in managing others including estimators
• Experienced in bottom-up pricing
• Extensive variety in types of work priced
• Candy estimating software knowledge preferred

Responsibilities

• Lead a large-scale programme of works with support from the wider function
• Drive best practice within the estimating function and bid structure
• Support junior team members with professional development
• Promote health, safety and environmental practices with SHEQ
• Attend project start-up meetings and site visits
• Prepare enquiry schedules from tender documents and specs
• Evaluate quotations and align with project requirements
• Prepare Bills of Quantities and bottom-up estimates
• Contribute to risk registers and attend risk meetings
• Present estimates at tender price settlement meetings
• Prepare tender handover documentation
• Support problems solving within estimates and respond to queries
• Record tender changes from client negotiations and review contracts
• Help develop the company estimating database
• Provide feedback on estimates vs actual costs to project teams
