Job summary

Harvey Nash is seeking a Principal Engineer to build greenfield fintech products in London. This is a hands-on leadership role with responsibility for architecture, tech decisions and mentoring engineers.

You'll work in a modern stack including Java/Spring Boot, React/TypeScript, Azure and Kubernetes, with strong emphasis on APIs, microservices and AI in the SDLC. Hybrid working in a regulated financial environment is offered.

Qualifications

• 7-8+ years' software engineering experience, with leadership as principal/staff/tech lead.
• Strong system design & technical leadership.
• Full-stack experience.
• Key Technologies: Java/Spring Boot, React/TypeScript and React Native, Azure (AWS or GCP is fine), Kubernetes, Terraform & CI/CD.
• APIs, microservices & event-driven architecture.
• Production ownership & modern engineering practices.
• Experience using AI - integrated into the SDLC.

Responsibilities

Principal Engineer | Financial Services | London | Permanent | Hybrid | up to £150k

I'm working on an exciting opportunity for a Principal Engineer to build new digital fintech products from the ground up (Greenfield).

This is a genuinely hands‑on Principal role - you'll lead an engineering squad, shape architecture, make key technical decisions, mentor engineers and stay hands on engineering digital products.

Required:

• 7-8+ years' software engineering experience, with experience leading as a principal, staff level or tech lead.
• Strong system design & technical leadership
• Full-stack experience
