Job summary

Fullsight, a shared services group serving SAE ITC, SAE International and PRI, is seeking a Principal Engineer to provide technical and engineering leadership for best practices, standards, and technical report development. You will facilitate working groups, develop industry guidance and coordinate responses with related industry groups.

Responsibilities include leading project engineering tasks, drafting statements of work, planning meetings, and supporting conference activities.

Qualifications

• 6 years’ experience in automotive or automated vehicle engineering, project management, project engineering, or technical management roles.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, quality, science, or business management.
• Technical/engineering expertise with experience in technical standards use, development, or auditing (automated or automotive industry use preferred).
• Strong interpersonal and communications skills along with excellent analytical, writing, editing, and presentation skills.
• Ability to organize effectively, carry out independent action, work on simultaneous assignments, and perform functions of a confidential manner.

• Participates in user-experience research to identify obstacles, improve ease-of-use, customer satisfaction and inform future product and service development.

The Principal Engineer provides general technical and engineering management expertise to the best practices, standards, and technical report development process. Facilitates and manages working groups and/or user forum projects developing applicable industry guidance, standards and technical reports. Business activities include but are not limited to supporting the development, management and marketing of standards & technical reports, qualification/certification programs, referee materials, cooperative research and identifying markets for the same. Supports implementation of company strategy and continuous improvement initiatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Applies job specific technical/ engineering expertise in project management and product development. Supports industry through demonstrated ability to facilitate and influence task groups to achieve industry desired outcomes

• Support and perform product development / project engineering tasks for working groups, and/or user forums as assigned, including:

  • Develop proposals for statement of work for new and revised standards & technical reports
  • Support projects, make plans to accomplish goals and facilitate the integration of technical activities
  • Develop industry guidance, standards and technical reports, coordinating responses to industry comments and coordinating with related industry groups and representing the subcommittees and working groups in meetings and forums
  • Support and perform technical oversight report generation/assessment as directed with strict confidentiality and compliance with procedural and regulatory requirements; conduct technical oversight as required; review/update reports; follow up and close non-conformances; ensure effective closure of reports for timely release of documents; provide technical summary reports to the assigned task group; quick elevation of issues for resolution.
  • Supports the work programs of assigned subcommittees and working groups, including technical planning, meeting logistics, facilitation, and meeting report preparation. Function as the focal point for committee activities by writing and issuing agendas and minutes, resolving problems, communicating information, answering inquiries, etc.

• Plans and conducts technical meetings, prepares materials, and facilitates technical sessions and seminars. Prepares technical meeting reports and presentation of results for industry coordination.

• Supports the planning of and contributes to the technical sessions at Industry Conferences & Technical Meetings. Support the program communication strategy plan. Provide input to the plan and support workshops, appearances and exhibits, as assigned. Also support and help to coordinate the development of marketing materials, as applicable.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• 6 years’ experience in automotive or automated vehicle engineering, project management, project engineering, or technical management roles.
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, quality, science, or business management.
• Technical/engineering expertise with experience in the areas of responsibility for technical standards use, development, or auditing (automated or automotive industry use preferred).
• Strong interpersonal and communications skills along with excellent analytical, writing, editing, and presentation skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Master’s degree in, engineering, science, quality, finance, or business management
• Role-related certifications.
• 2 years of experience managing volunteer committees, or similar experience.
• Strong computer skills including MS Office and typical office application software; Knowledge of software and database systems.

Standard business hours with flexibility for global meetings.

• Remote office with reliable, secure internet connection and proper ergonomic setup.
• Frequent virtual meetings; occasional travel (up to 30%) for technical conferences or committee sessions.
