Essential Requirements, Current Valid Driving Licence, Degree in civil engineering accredited by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), Registered as a Chartered / Incorporated Engineer (ICE), Current full membership of an appropriate professional engineering institution.

The Role

As part of the Highways Design and Construction team, you will lead on the design and implementation of the Council’s extensive capital programme of highway improvement, public realm and major highway maintenance schemes.

You will develop work programmes and strategies for the management of the highway asset, as well as managing project teams consisting of both internal and external staff. Working on multi-disciplinary projects you will liaise with stakeholders, partner organisations, Councillors, external contractors and the public during project delivery, ensuring that all projects are delivered to the highest standards of health and safety. You will contribute to the development of staff and the continual improvement of our processes.

About You

You will be an enthusiastic Chartered or Incorporated Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers with extensive experience of the design of highway and civil engineering schemes, including asset management and major maintenance works.

You will have experience of contract management and working with external contractors. You will be able to manage a team of engineers and be able to ensure that projects are delivered to budget and on time. You will be able to develop programmes of work. You will have excellent communication skills and have experience of dealing with a range of stakeholders, contractors and the public
