Job summary

A leading engineering consultancy in the UK is looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer to lead a team on MEP projects. The successful candidate will ensure client requirements are met within agreed budgets and timelines while managing a team of engineers. You should have significant design and site experience, a qualification of HNC or equivalent, and preferably be a Chartered Engineer. This role offers opportunities for growth and the chance to work on modernizing transport infrastructure.

  • Experience with offshore Production Centres is preferred.

Job description

The Principal Electrical Engineer will lead a team of Electrical Engineers, reporting to the Team Leader or Discipline Lead M&E, and act as the MEP Contractors Responsible Engineer (CRE) and/or Lead Engineer on MEP projects allocated by the Team Leader or Discipline Lead M&E.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure projects meet all client requirements and applicable standards.
  • Ensure projects meet the agreed project programme.
  • Ensure projects meet the agreed budget.
  • Plan project works and provide forward‑view resource forecasting to enable the team leader to allocate suitable resources to the projects.
  • Identify changes to the project client requirements and raise the changes with the SYSTRA Project Management Team.
  • Provide monthly cost‑to‑complete forecasts to the SYSTRA Project Management Team.
  • Ensure the training and development needs of the electrical team are met to serve the client/projects requirements.
  • Manage a team of electrical engineers on allocated projects.
  • Maintain good relationships with all external parties to enhance the reputation of the company.
  • Maintain good relationships with engineers from other internal discipline teams to promote good inter‑discipline working relationships and a "One Team" ethos.
  • Provide flexibility in working hours and ability to travel to client sites and other SYSTRA offices as required.
  • Deliver detailed knowledge of electrical services design within the built environment and/or transport infrastructure including railway lineside systems and/or lighting, small power, containment, earthing or fire alarms.
  • Deliver detailed knowledge of multi‑disciplinary issues associated with M/E and/or building services.
  • Deliver detailed knowledge of construction principles and standards.
Qualifications
  • Significant engineering design and site experience in a similar consultancy or contractor organisation.
  • Qualified to HNC or equivalent.
  • Experience in working with offshore Production Centres.
  • Ideally a Chartered Engineer.
  • Able to undertake overseas assignments where required.
  • Have a good understanding of CSM/CDM regulations and requirements.
  • Good communication and presentation skills for external presentations to clients.
  • Commercial awareness and ability to play a part in a dynamic high‑performance team.
