Job summary

AtkinsRéalis is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to lead delivery on iconic water sector projects within the Design & Advanced Technology Practice. You will guide a multidisciplinary team, oversee technical design deliverables, and ensure high-quality outputs across UK and international workstreams.

The role requires Chartered Engineer status, strong leadership, and extensive experience in electrical design within water and industrial environments.

Qualifications

• A degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Chartered Engineer.
• Experience coordinating or managing an Electrical design delivery team in a multi-disciplinary environment.
• Ability to identify innovative design solutions to design problems.
• Strong knowledge and practical experience in Electrical designs.
• Practical knowledge of water company design codes and standards such as WIMES.
• Good awareness of HAZOP, lightning risk assessments, earthing/bonding, lighting designs, DSEAR and ATEX practices.
• Proficiency with electrical design software such as Trimble/Amtech.
• Ability to work independently with minimal technical guidance.
• Experience in water market is preferred but not required.
• Experience in industrial and process environments is essential.
• Demonstrates strong communication skills within diverse multi-disciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate or manage a team of Electrical & ICA engineers for design delivery on complex multi-disciplinary projects.
• Successfully manage time and budgets to key project milestones and programmes.
• Lead and produce technical deliverables such as SLDs, Cable Block Diagrams, Load Schedules, MCC specs, Control Philosophies, Network Architecture.
• Provide technical input into electrical design deliverables and collaborate with project management to meet milestones.
• Collaborate with client and internal teams to deliver integrated solutions.
• Mentor less experienced colleagues and grow Electrical & ICA capabilities.
• Provide guidance to junior team members and work with minimal technical guidance.
• Provide technical input for bid proposals.
• Support UK and overseas teams in delivering designs.
• Adhere to QA standards and check/review own and others' work.
• Contribute to business development to grow the water market.

We are looking for an energetic and experienced Principal Electrical Engineer to join our team within the Design & Advanced Technology (D&AT) Practice of AtkinsRéalis. As an Principal Electrical Engineer in the D&AT practice, the successful candidate would have the following responsibilities:

• Coordinate or manage a team of Electrical & ICA engineers for delivery of technical design work on complex multi-disciplinary projects following relevant client and project specific design codes and standards, and to high-quality levels.
• Successfully manage time and budgets of the Electrical & ICA team to key project milestones and programmes.
• Responsible for leading and producing technical deliverables such as Single Line Diagrams, Cable Block Diagrams, Load Schedules, MCC specifications, Control Philosophies, Control Network Architecture.
• Provide technical input into project design deliverables for Electrical aspects of complex multi-disciplinary projects and work with the project management team to successfully manage time and budgets to key project milestones and programmes.
• Collaborate with client, operational, project, or service activities within your immediate team and other related AtkinsRéalis teams.
• Provide mentorship to less experienced colleagues and help to grow the Electrical & ICA capabilities within the local team and the wider Electrical & ICA technical network.
• Work independently with minimal technical guidance. Exercise personal judgement to solve difficult problems where appropriate and provide guidance to junior team members.
• Provide technical support for bid proposals.
• Work closely with multi-disciplinary teams in the UK and overseas to deliver integrated design solutions.
• Adhere to quality assurance standards in design including check and review of own work as well as others.
• Contribute to business development initiatives to drive growth of water market for AtkinsRéalis.

About you

• Proven experience in coordinating or managing an Electrical engineering design delivery team for a design consultancy including within a multi-disciplinary environment.
• Takes broad perspective to identify innovative solutions to design problems.
• Requires strong knowledge and practical experience in Electrical designs.
• Practical knowledge of water company design codes and standards as well as industry best practices, such as WIMES.
• Good awareness of HAZOP assessments, lightning strike risk assessments, earthing and bonding, lighting designs, DSEAR and ATEX installation practices.
• Proficiency in designing within appropriate digital analysis packages, following local and national guidance. E.g. electrical design software such as Trimble/Amtech.
• Ability to work independently with minimal technical guidance.
• Experience in water market is preferred but not required.
• Experience in industrial and process environment is essential.
• Demonstrates strong communication skills, with the ability to convey technical concepts clearly and effectively within diverse multi-disciplinary teams.
