Job summary

Amentum is seeking a Principal Electrical Engineer to design large industrial facilities, including power station buildings and major manufacturing sites, with hybrid working 1-2 days in Glasgow or Reading. Occasional site visits may be necessary.

The role involves leading EC&I engineering teams, coordinating with delivery teams, and delivering drawings, specifications, and technical documents across project stages. UK-based travel may be required.

Qualifications

• In-depth knowledge of the electrical engineering discipline.
• Experience designing HV/LV distribution and related protection systems.
• Experience sizing LV cables and using AMTECH for sizing.
• Experience in electrical building services design.
• Experience in contracting environments and on-site work.
• Willing to travel as required.

Responsibilities

• Assess and design projects and coordinate with the delivery team.
• Lead or work with EC&I engineers/designers on deliverables across project stages.
• Prepare drawings, specs, and contract documents.
• Perform calculations and evaluations for industrial equipment and systems.
• Interface with Safety Case and System Engineering teams.
• Plan costing, timelines and scheduling for assigned projects.
• Maintain clear communication with clients and project teams.
• Authorship/review of technical deliverables.

About the opportunity:

Our Defence and Security provide design and engineering services for our nuclear and defence clients across the UK and abroad. Our team is experiencing exciting growth and long-term prospects within our established practice, and we are looking for an Principal Electrical Engineer to design large industrial facilities, e.g. power station buildings, large manufacturing facilities, dockyards, etc then we want to speak with you. We offer hybrid working with 1-2 days in the our Glasgow or Reading office. Occasional site visits may be necessary.

Key Responsibilities include:

• Performs the assessment and design and monitors ongoing process of a project, including the coordination of the project with project delivery team.
• Leading/working with a team of EC&I engineers/designers in developing engineering deliverables throughout various stages of the project.
• Prepare drawings, functional and technical specifications, and contract documents.
• Performs calculations and evaluations in the design of equipment and systems for industrial applications.
• Interfaces and co-ordinates with Safety Case and System Engineering teams.
• Participates in planning, cost development and management, and scheduling for assigned projects.
• Maintains effective communication with clients, project team members and project delivery team.
• Responsible for authoring/reviewing/checking on technical deliverables.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

• Possess in depth knowledge of the electrical engineering discipline.
• Experience in design of HV/LV distribution systems and associated control and protection systems.
• Experience in LV cable sizing and design and using cable sizing software (AMTECH).
• Experience in electrical building services design.
• Experience in a contracting environment, relevant site experience.
• Willing to travel if/when required
