Job summary

A leading defense contractor is seeking a Principal Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Engineer – Site Specialist Engineering based in Barrow-in-Furness. This role involves setting engineering standards for electrical and control systems and providing expert advice on design specifications. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in EC&CI engineering roles, particularly in machine/crane control systems, and is proficient in BMS systems. The company offers hybrid and flexible working arrangements.

Qualifications

  • Essential: Extensive experience in an EC&CI engineering role, predominantly C&I.
  • Familiarity with machine/crane control systems is crucial.
  • Knowledge of BMS systems and alarm/communication systems is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Set engineering standards for electrical and control equipment.
  • Advise on design related to electrical & control systems.
  • Review electrical & control drawings and design packages.
  • Provide technical advice for site-wide control systems.
  • Ensure equipment is designed, constructed, commissioned, and maintained properly.
  • Produce and classify engineering documentation.

Job Title:

Principal Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Engineer – Site Specialist Engineering

What you’ll be doing:
  • Setting site engineering standards and requirements for electrical and control equipment/systems/facilities
  • Providing advice and guidance with respect to the design in relation to electrical & control systems in the context of site facilities, including the application of design standards
  • Reviewing electrical & control drawings, schematics and design packages
  • Acting as a subject matter expert providing technical advice for sitewide control systems to operations, maintenance and projects
  • Reviewing proposals to ensure that the equipment/facilities are designed, constructed, commissioned, operated and maintained in accordance with the appropriate processes and standards
  • Production of engineering documentation (technical reports, operating instructions and process instructions) ensuring that it is appropriately classified, is authorised through due process and maintained under configuration control
Your skills and experience:

Essential:

  • Experience in an EC&CI engineering role, predominantly C&I
  • Experience in machine/crane control systems
  • Experience with BMS systems & alarm and communication systems

Desirable:

  • Experience of functional safety design
  • Experience and understanding of Radio frequency and EMC within an industrial environment
