Job Title: Principal EC&I Engineer

Locations (Hybrid): Warrington, Preston, Hull
Hours: 37.5 hours per week
Rate: £63.00 - 81.00 per hour (Umbrella / PAYE)
Duration: 12 months minimum (ongoing likely)
Clearance: Ideally SC cleared but not essential (must be able to obtain BS clearance)

Role Overview

We are seeking a Principal EC&I Engineer to lead the design and delivery of complex Electrical, Control, and Instrumentation (EC&I) systems across major nuclear projects. This role provides technical leadership, mentorship, and strategic direction while ensuring compliance with safety, quality, and regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of EC&I systems across nuclear projects.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance to engineering teams and act as a subject‑matter expert.
  • Ensure EC&I solutions meet regulatory, safety, and quality standards.
  • Oversee project progress, resolve technical issues, and make strategic decisions.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, external contractors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support continuous technical development within the team.
  • Manage stakeholders effectively, aligning technical solutions with project objectives.
Requirements
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status preferred or working towards it.
  • Extensive experience in EC&I system design and delivery within regulated industries (nuclear, energy, or defence).
  • Strong knowledge of PLCs, SCADA, instrumentation technologies, and power distribution systems.
  • Proven track record of leadership, project delivery, and stakeholder management.
  • Understanding of nuclear safety standards, regulatory compliance, and technical governance.
  • Security Clearance: Must be able to achieve and maintain SC clearance.
