Job description

Amentum are recruiting a Principal EC&I Engineer to join our Fusion team, which has recently won several important projects and has a host of exciting new opportunities in research, engineering, operations and decommissioning. As one of the newest departments in Amentum, we are regularly involved in delivering on exciting bids and projects with several different fusion clients and as such the ideal candidate needs to be someone with an engineering background, who has a demonstrable track record of contributing to and leading projects effectively. This role will be based in our Culham and Harwell offices and there may be a need for periodic visits to client sites, as projects require.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the technical delivery of engineering solutions with accountability for EC&I engineering activities on projects, and fostering a collaborative and inclusive team environment
  • Develop and substantiate electrical systems, control systems and instrumentation as part of broader engineering solutions applying relevant codes, standards, guidelines and best practices
  • Perform sizing calculations, specification and selection of EC&I equipment and systems, for example power distribution, cabling, instrumentation and control systems
  • Delivery of high quality technical documentation, for example calculations, specifications, datasheets and reports
  • Ensure that EC&I engineering solutions meet functional, performance and safety requirements including active involvement in verification and validation activities
  • Apply functional safety lifecycle management and execution in accordance with IEC-61508 and relevant industry standards
  • Conduct fault analysis and reliability assessments using recognised techniques, for example FMEA, FTA, HAZID and HAZOP
  • Review EC&I deliverables produced by others, providing constructive feedback in a supportive and respectful manner
  • Support, mentor and supervise engineers and students, promoting knowledge sharing, inclusiveness and personal development
Qualifications
  • Degree in relevant engineering discipline or demonstrable equivalent underpinning knowledge and understanding with relevant industry experience, apprenticeships or other non-traditional routes. Ideally working towards or attained chartered engineer status with an appropriate professional institution
  • Awareness of software based control systems, for example PLCs, FPGAs, SCADA, HMIs, DCSs, DPSs and SMART components
  • Health and safety focus with experience of relevant EC&I regulations, standards, guidelines and best practices
  • Proactive and collaborative approach to work, with the ability to take ownership of tasks and contribute effectively to team goals
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and disciplines
  • Competent technical report writing skills: clearly and concisely reporting findings
Remuneration

£44,885 per year (estimated). Part time.
