Job summary

SYSTRA is seeking a Principal Digital Engineer in London to lead digital project delivery across major infrastructure projects. You will champion BIM/CAD processes, manage 4D/3D/2D models, and drive coordination and information management with designers, partners and clients.

You will embed best practices for digital delivery, support constructability analysis, and ensure outputs meet project standards and detail requirements. Hybrid working arrangements are available.

Context

We are looking for a talented Principal Digital Engineer to play a key role in supporting the Alliance BIM Manager / Digital Engineering Manager across major infrastructure and transportation projects. This is a fantastic opportunity to join a forward-thinking team where digital delivery sits at the heart of project success, helping to drive quality, coordination and innovation across complex design environments.

Working within a collaborative multidisciplinary setting, you will help shape how digital engineering is delivered across projects, supporting the management of 4D/3D/2D dimensional models, technical assurance, coordination and constructability analysis. This role is ideal for someone who combines strong BIM and CAD capability with a proactive, solutions-focused mindset and a passion for improving project delivery through digital excellence.

Missions/Main Duties

• Be at the centre of digital project delivery, working closely with designers, contract partners and specialist teams to keep models, information and coordination activity moving smoothly across the project lifecycle.
• Take the lead in supporting day-to-day digital engineering implementation, helping teams embed effective BIM, model coordination and information management practices into live project environments.
• Bring projects to life through the management and coordination of 4D model development, helping teams visualise construction sequencing, temporary works and site logistics with greater clarity and confidence.
• Play a visible role in resolving design and coordination challenges by using digital models to identify clashes, sequencing issues and spatial conflicts before they impact delivery on site.
• Help maintain the quality and integrity of project models, ensuring outputs are aligned with project requirements, technical standards and agreed levels of detail and information.
• Act as a trusted digital point of contact for project teams, supporting the use, review and federation of models while enabling clear communication between internal teams, consultants and contractors.
• Support the successful deployment and day-to-day use of digital engineering tools and associated hardware, helping teams get the best from project systems and software.
• Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement by strengthening digital workflows, supporting better coordination practices and helping improve reporting, assurance and information exchange processes.
• Use digital delivery to support safer and more buildable outcomes, contributing to coordinated models that reflect project requirements, sequencing needs and compliance expectations.
• Share your expertise with others in the team, offering guidance and practical support that helps build digital capability across the wider project environment.

Profile/Skills

• Strong working knowledge of BIM/CAD delivery and digital engineering processes within complex infrastructure or transportation projects.
• Proven experience using industry-recognised tools such as MicroStation, AECOsim, OpenRoads, Power Rail, Navigator and ProjectWise, or similar digital delivery platforms.
• A confident understanding of model coordination, digital review workflows and the production of high-quality 4D and 3D project outputs.
• Experience working with British and/or International BIM and CAD Standards, with the ability to apply them effectively in live delivery environments.
• A practical understanding of constructability, temporary works coordination and how digital tools can support safer, more efficient project delivery.
• The ability to build strong relationships across project teams, working effectively with clients, consultants, contractors and delivery partners.
• Excellent communication skills, with the confidence to support reporting, coordination and digital implementation across multiple stakeholders.
• Strong technical awareness combined with a proactive, problem-solving approach and a focus on quality.
• A background in either consultancy or contractor environments, ideally within infrastructure transportation projects.
• High proficiency across Microsoft Office and digital project systems, supported by a collaborative and delivery-focused mindset.
