Job description

The UK energy sector is undergoing unprecedented transformation as organisations respond to increasing demand, evolving regulations and ambitious net-zero targets. As part of our continued growth, we're looking for a Principal Designer and CDM Advisor to join our Energy & Resources team and play a key role in supporting some of the UK's most significant infrastructure and energy projects.

Working within a multi-disciplinary team, you'll contribute to major programmes across Hydropower & Dams, Pumped Storage Hydro, Energy from Waste, Nuclear, Hydrogen Generation, and Transmission & Distribution, helping our clients deliver critical projects safely, efficiently and sustainably.

About the Role

As a Principal Designer and CDM Advisor, you will provide expert health, safety and CDM leadership throughout the project lifecycle, supporting clients, design teams and project stakeholders in meeting their duties under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015.

You will advise on design risk management, coordinate health and safety considerations throughout project development, and where required undertake the role of CDM Advisor, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and industry best practice. Working collaboratively across multidisciplinary project teams, you will help embed a proactive safety culture while supporting the successful delivery of complex infrastructure and energy projects.

The role offers excellent opportunities to work directly with clients, contribute to innovative engineering solutions, and support the growth of our expanding Energy & Resources business.

Your Impact

Your expertise will help ensure that some of the UK's most important energy and infrastructure projects are delivered with safety at the forefront. By influencing design decisions early, identifying and managing risks, and supporting effective collaboration between project stakeholders, you will help create safer, more sustainable outcomes for clients, communities and the environment.

Through your leadership and technical guidance, you'll support project teams in navigating complex regulatory requirements while fostering best practice and continuous improvement across our projects and wider business.

About You

You will have a degree in a relevant engineering, construction, health and safety, or related discipline, with a strong understanding of CDM Regulations 2015 and their practical application within major infrastructure projects. Chartered status and additional health and safety qualifications, such as NEBOSH, would be advantageous.

You'll bring consultancy or project experience within the built environment, infrastructure or energy sectors, alongside the ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and develop strong client relationships. Experience mentoring colleagues and supporting the development of junior team members would also be highly valued.

Most importantly, you'll be passionate about safety, sustainability and delivering positive outcomes for clients, with the drive to help shape projects that support the UK's transition to a lower-carbon future.
