Job summary

Leonardo UK is seeking a Principal Data Control Engineer to drive governance of critical engineering and programme data across defence and aerospace projects. You'll report to the Lead C&D Manager and ensure data is identified, version-controlled, secure, and traceable throughout the lifecycle.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in data management within defence, aerospace, or other highly regulated industries.
• Thorough understanding of data lifecycle control, document management, and information governance.
• Experience in creating and working to Data Management Plans and organisational procedures.
• Experience in working with sensitive, classified, or export-controlled data.
• Understanding of, or willing to learn about cryptographic data security.

Responsibilities

• Deliver data management activities per DMPs.
• Ensure data is identified, version-controlled, and accessible.
• Maintain data status, integrity, and visibility.
• Ensure governance and contractual compliance.
• Lead development and maintenance of programme DMPs.
• Support audits and provide evidence.
• Integrate data management with configuration management.
• Apply data security and access controls.
• Lead audits and corrective actions.
• Oversee data across the full product lifecycle.
• Collaborate with engineering, quality, and programme teams.
• Provide mentoring to Data Management Engineers.
• Exposure to cryptography.
