A leading healthcare provider in the UK is seeking a Radiation Protection Adviser to provide radiation protection services and leadership in the Velindre Cancer Centre. This role involves managing projects and acting as a Medical Physics Expert for diagnostic radiology. Desirable skills include leadership abilities and expertise in radiation protection. The Radiation Protection Service at Velindre Cancer Centre (aka RPS Cardiff) delivers a range of ionising radiation protection services to a customer base located primarily in South East Wales. This includes the Aneurin Bevan, Cardiff & Vale, Cwm Taff and Powys Health Boards, Public Health Wales at all of its sites across Wales using ionising radiation, local universities, the private healthcare sector and Velindre University NHS Trust. Services delivered include the statutory roles of Radiation Protection Adviser (under the Ionising Radiations Regulations 2017), Medical Physics Expert for diagnostic radiology (under the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations 2017) and Radioactive Waste Adviser (under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016). Services are provided by an integrated team of clinical scientists, clinical technologists and administrative staff.
The scope of this work will extend beyond the statutory requirements detailed in the regulations and associated guidance documents to include the implementation of advances in philosophy, good practice and technological innovations as recommended by national and international organisations concerned with radiation protection, diagnostic radiology physics and metrology.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable but not essential for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
