Job summary

Evan Craig is seeking a Principal Chartered Structural Engineer to lead the structural team for a growing North West SME multidisciplinary consultancy in Wigan. The role combines day-to-day management with strategic expansion, mentoring staff and developing new business.

You will oversee design from concept to completion, ensure technical excellence, and collaborate with civil/geotechnical teams as the firm grows while maintaining strong client relationships.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering.
• Chartered status with IStructE or ICE.
• Minimum 15 years UK construction experience in multidisciplinary environments.
• Proven track record in superstructure and substructure design.
• Strong technical skills and proficiency in design software.
• Excellent verbal and written communication; leadership and mentoring ability.
• Able to operate at a senior management level.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the structural engineering team daily.
• Lead design and delivery of projects from concept to completion.
• Provide technical guidance to engineers and technicians.
• Undertake and oversee structural surveys and inspections.
• Prepare calculations, drawings, specifications.
• Collaborate with civil/geotechnical teams for integrated solutions.
• Mentor junior staff; interface with clients; drive business development.
