Job description

At Severn Trent, our people are at the heart of everything we do. We’re in the top 5% of utility companies worldwide when it comes to employee engagement and ranked as a Top 50 UK Employer on Glassdoor. Join us in making a positive impact on the environment and our communities, while being valued and supported in a truly inclusive workplace.

If you want to do more, because you care, we want you on our team.

LET’S TELL YOU MORE

At Severn Trent, we don’t just keep the taps running — we’re a cornerstone of the UK’s critical national infrastructure. That’s what makes the role of Principal Business Analyst so exciting. You’ll bring your expertise into a fast‑paced, high‑impact environment where the projects you lead directly contribute to keeping our customers safe and our services resilient. This is your chance to make a real difference, using your skills to shape the future of water and waste services.

As a key member of our Portfolio team, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring the successful delivery of business value — on time, within budget, and to the highest quality. With a strategic view across all projects, you’ll lead the refinement of business outcomes, from feasibility studies to epic‑level planning. You’ll collaborate with technical experts, service teams, and senior stakeholders to explore innovative solutions that deliver value as early as possible.

Your day‑to‑day will be varied and impactful. You’ll manage and prepare business requirements, support programme activities, and take ownership of understanding and addressing stakeholder needs. From refining new demand to identifying opportunities for improvement, your insights will help shape smarter, more efficient ways of working. If you're ready to lead with purpose and drive meaningful change, this is the role for you.

You’ll be based at our Severn Trent Centre head officein Coventry City Centre. You’ll work within our dedicated delivery team, working on specific projects and programmes. With this being such a critical role, we’re looking for someone who can join us 37 hours a week, Monday to Friday.

HOW WE WORK

You’ll join a caring culture that collaborates to achieve, grow, and develop. Our employee engagement scores are among the highest globally in energy and utilities. That’s why we value in‑person moments to keep our culture alive but also understand the flexibility working from home can bring. So, you'll usually find us in the office, but working from home is supported, when you need it.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We’ll be looking for you to be a seasoned Business Analyst, ideally with experience of working within a technology business area. If you’re able to demonstrate knowledge of standards and frameworks, plus tools and techniques used within the profession, as well as being familiar with Project management methodologies and IT service management frameworks (such as ITIL) this will be fantastic. We’ll also be looking for you to have demonstrable experience of stakeholder management at all levels up to exec board.

Skills and experience are important, but character, positivity, and a caring attitude matter too. We welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality as we know diverse minds, experiences and backgrounds help us to learn and better serve our communities. We seek people who get involved, want to be part of something bigger, and make a difference because they care.

HOW WE’LL REWARD AND CARE FOR YOU IN RETURN

It’s not just a job; it’s a career. We offer benefits that reward great work and award‑winning training to help you reach your potential. Plus, you'll contribute to the environment and community too. Here are some of our favourites:

  • 31 days holiday + bank holidays (and the ability to buy/sell up to 5 days per year)
  • Annual bonus scheme (of up to 20% of salary dependent on company performance)
