As part of our continued growth, we are seeking a highly skilled and versatile professional to join our team as Principal Building Safety & Compliance Consultant. This is a unique opportunity to combine expertise in Building Safety Act compliance, CDM Principal Designer duties, and technical building control surveying into one pivotal role.

Job Summary

You will act as a trusted advisor and compliance lead across a portfolio of residential, commercial, and healthcare projects. Combining regulatory expertise with practical building surveying skills, you will ensure projects meet statutory requirements under the Building Safety Act 2022, Building Regulations 2022, and CDM (2015). You will provide technical guidance, undertake inspections, manage design risk, and deliver training to foster a culture of safety and compliance.

Key Responsibilities

Building Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all projects and properties adhere to the Building Safety Act and related legislation.
  • Provide supporting guidance as part of a team on fire safety, structural elements of building control, accessibility, energy efficiency, and sustainability standards.
  • Monitor legislative updates and ensure internal processes and client policies remain compliant.

Principal Designer Duties (CDM 2015)

  • Act as Principal Designer, ensuring compliance with CDM (2015) Regulations across the design and planning stages.
  • Advise design teams in a support role and Principal Contractors on design risk management and safe construction practices.
  • Prepare and coordinate pre-construction information and ensure risks are properly managed.
  • Review and challenge design proposals to ensure safety and compliance are embedded.

Building Control Surveying

  • Conduct plan checks, site inspections, and assessments across residential, commercial, and healthcare projects.
  • Issue compliance reports, certificates, and regulatory documentation in line with RICS standards.
  • Liaise with local authorities, regulatory bodies, and clients to ensure smooth approval and certification processes.

Stakeholder Engagement & Training

  • Act as a key point of contact for clients, contractors, regulators, and consultants.
  • Foster a culture of proactive safety and compliance within client organisations.
Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • Degree or equivalent in Building Surveying, Building Control or Building Surveying,
  • RICS-accredited qualification (Chartered or Associate level) or equivalent professional recognition (e.g., CABE, CIOB).
  • Proven experience in Building Control surveying, Building Safety Act understanding, Building Regulations and CDM Designer duties with Project Management experience desirable
  • Experience / Technical knowledge of:
  • Building Safety Act 2022
  • Building Regulations 2022
  • CDM (2015) Regulations
  • Regulatory Reform Fire Safety Order 2005
  • NEBOSH qualification (Construction or equivalent).
  • Excellent communication, report writing, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel across the UK.

Desirable:

  • Experience with high-rise or complex developments.
  • Additional professional memberships (CABE, CIOB, APS).
  • Knowledge of sustainability and energy efficiency frameworks.
  • Strong commercial awareness and client management skills.
